Hey Gays, Prepare For The Backlash
It's time to escape this forced marriage and file for divorce. Before we get caught in the crossfire.
I haven't written in a while, because I've been devoting myself to other projects, but I have continued to follow the trans debacle from afar. And what a debacle it is. After reading through Hannah Barnes’ 'Time To Think', I am currently preparing the world's loudest 'I Told You So' utterance, because well, I told you so. I told you that 'child transition' was conversion therapy junk science five years ago, and I continue to be right. But of course, the slow unravelling of the transgender movement is going to cause even more unfathomable damage to the gay community than its raveling did.
In the UK, homosexuals have been the most prominent figures campaigning against this madness - think Julie Bindel, or Kathleen Stock, and the biggest figure of all is a straight, liberal woman - JK Rowling, bless her soul. However, back home, things aren't so rosy. Most of the opposition to this nonsense has come from the right, particularly the Christian right. The UK has JK Rowling, the US has been blessed with gay marriage-hating Christian fundamentalist Matt Walsh and his 'What Is A Woman' documentary.
This is already turning into an issue. While the issues with the 'Don't Say Gay' bill in Florida were overhyped, and Tennessee Senate Bill 3 only banned male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient(i.e. sexual) interest in front of children1, these are probably the start of something worse. It is not a good portent for the gay community, who have already lost the right to free association in parts of Australia, thanks to the transgender movement - we’ll now face a double whammy from the incoming backlash. We could be left with nothing, which is worse than the hollowed out legal regime and destroyed community that the transgender movement has caused. As organizations that say they speak for homosexuals (spoiler: they don't) continue to defend the indefensible, we’re vulnerable. There's only so much an organization like 'Gays Against Groomers' can do against the covens of Anita Bryants the trans debacle is fomenting.
When it’s the conservative Christians taking action on banning the conversion therapy that is child transition, and not gay organizations, we have a problem.
Indeed, the gay response has been somewhat muted in the US. This might be because we've been left abandoned between two mainstream groups that more or less hate our guts - the transgender-supporting left, who don't think we have a right to boundaries or bodily autonomy, or at this rate, the right to grow up unmolested by puberty blockers, and the socially conservative right, some of who view the destruction of the gay community by the transgender movement as something we deserved and brought upon ourselves. These two groups control most of the bifurcated internet and its various platforms, meaning the gay voice on these issues often doesn't get a platform the way it does in the UK. The US isn't alone on this issue - most of the Anglosphere mainstream media effectively pretends that gay people are fine and dandy with the destruction of our community, and we’re all united in calling ourselves queer, and being sexually fluid, and totally welcoming of Chesty LaSparkle and his dong claiming to be an oppressed lesbian more oppressed than all the other lesbians.
We don't even have our flag to ourselves anymore. Please tell me, which other minority group on this earth would be expected to put up with having their representative flag repeatedly and consistently desecrated and deformed into representing active hatred of said minority group? Only homosexuals. If you thought homophobia was over with Obergefell, a quick glance at the rainbow flag tells you what the left really thinks of us. They were quite happy to let a group of straight people repeatedly change a flag that didn’t belong to them, then foist it upon the original owners as a purity test.
A small acknowledgement of homosexual transsexuals in the 1990s has turned into cross dressing transvestites - fetishistic men - becoming the ‘faces’ of ‘lesbianism’ and the wider community in academic, media, and activism contexts, allowed in by the Uncle Toms that are the remaining few gays and lesbians in the LGBTQIA+*=^)]*:$uwu industrial complex (most of them have been pushed out for cheaper, and trendier heterosexuals these days), who are often partnered themselves, not needing community. They do not face the day in and day out hassle that the average single lesbian attempting to date or find community does from autogynephiliacs. It’s not much skin off their nose to start talking about ‘trans women are welcome in my lesbian spaces’ while the rest of us are trying to avoid the unwanted sexual attention of Elmer Fudd in a wig. I wonder what the statistics are for gays and lesbians under 30 are for being partnered? I bet they’ve cratered.
The lesbian bar is suffering a drawn out death at the hands of autogynephiliacs and their enablers, the best example being a lesbian bar in France that closed after threats from the trans community after making it clear that women were allowed boundaries in the bar, and gay bars are following their sisters into the grave. Endless panels and Guardian articles and mealy mouthed ‘well the apps replaced them’ excuses don’t get to the heart of the issue - regular gays and lesbians got sick of going to their bars, finding it full of straight people claiming to be just like them, and stopped going. Then the community events also died. I challenge you to find more than half a dozen gay people at a Pride Parade these days. They’ve turned Pride into something it never was - a celebration of fetishism, sex pests, and kink, and then claiming that represents us. Pride originated as fairly even-keeled civil rights protest, not a celebration of BDSM or God-knows-what else goes on at those things now. Being gay or lesbian isn’t about any of that, it’s about being solely attracted to the same sex.
All of these things have become colonized domains of straights, a real-life version of Get Out, but about buttsex instead. You’ve seen Get Out, right? Now imagine that being your community, all day, every day, non-stop, and the media tries to gaslight you to think it’s just fine and it’s not a horror movie.
In a way, the coming backlash won’t really change much in some ways. We’ve already lost many of our hard-earned rights thanks to the transgender movement. In workplaces that have drunk the Kool-Aid, a homosexual cannot be honest about being homosexual, lest they face issues with their employment. You cannot be honest about being homosexual in academia, the media, or the arts, because you’ll end up on an ‘anti-trans blacklist’. Homosexual only events and spaces are illegal once again in parts of the West. The right would happily take all our remaining rights from us. The Lavender Scare is back on both sides, baby, so time to start speaking up.
(I think people got upset about this because they don't understand the word 'prurient' - this means banning people from cross-dressing for sexual purposes in front of children, which I guess criminalizes all autogynephiles, come to think of it. It also banned topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, and strippers from performing in front of children. But I digress.)
It's saddening to see a time return that I had thought that we'd successfully clawed our way up out of in the 60s & 70s. My heart breaks for young gays and lesbians today and for the next years to come.
I'm glad you are able to mostly just watch from afar, for the most part. Glad to read you again. I'm getting scared where this could go, while at the same time being happy that the childhood transition train might finally be slowing. I still feeling like some of your older articles put a lot of this horror show together for me.
